  • Memory management advice (2026/03/18 14:59)
I have been running Manjaro in a Windows VirtualBox VM for about a year. I started by giving it 12gb of my 32gb host RAM, but I keep a lot of tabs open in Vivaldi so I upped that to 16gb. However, I still occasionally (every few weeks) have Vivaldi get shut down because of out-of-memory issues. The latest time this happened, after it was closed I checked system monitor and it still showed 8gb RAM used - even though no other apps were running. After a reboot, it shows 1.6gb used (before I start Vivaldi, of course). I have a completely stock/vanilla version of Manjaro running - I didn't do any customization or tweaks or anything. I almost exclusively just use Vivaldi and occasionally OpenOffice. I do sometimes use the "save the machine state" option to close the VM so I can play a game in Windows, and I do have three shared folders mounted using the VirtualBox feature. If the baseline clean state uses 1.6gb, and Vivaldi averages 3-4gb, I don't understand how or why the system eventually fills up the 16gb of RAM. Is there something I can configure for more aggressive memory cache cleaning? I know I could just do a restart once a week as a preventative measure, but I feel like I shouldn't need to do that on a Linux system... Thanks! submitted by /u/dewalist [link] [comments]
  • Thank you devs. (2026/03/18 08:18)
Just been asked to install a Linux distribution (with hybrid intel/ NVIDIA GTX 1050M) on a friend's laptop (i already installed Manjaro KDE Plasma on his gaming AMD only desktop some months ago and he is very happy with it). With the latest ISO 260228 and kernel 6.18, the old NVIDIA card is now fully working out of the box with legacy proprietary drivers, alongside the intel chipset (it did not with another "gaming" distribution i installed first because he wanted to try something else too 😅). So, just thank you to the devs. People usually come here to complain when something does not work, it felt right to come too, just to say that Manjaro rocks. submitted by /u/Clark_B [link] [comments]
  • How bad is it (2026/03/18 07:04)
Hi, Yesterday my pc started feeling sluggish when having open multiple browser tabs and steam. Today my pc crashed after 2 minutes, and after a restart I barely couldn't move the mouse pointer on the login screen. After I managed to log in my screen looks like this .. My console on an other terminal is working tho. I didn't do an update the last 3 days or so. But besides chromium everything is up to date. Kernel is 6.18 Gnome I am looking into the journal now. I have e820: update [men 0xc0000000-0xffffffff] usable and other lines like that highlighted red. There is a systemd-coredump in there. I will post a image below... Also Io/hpmud/pp.c 627: unable to read device-id Ret=-1 Is red Any ideas? My GPU toast? Ram? update: I switched to an older Kernel(5.15) and it worked again. switched back to 6.18 and it is still working?! I installed memtest to check my Ram... submitted by /u/PositiveNegation [link] [comments]

  • Can someone explain Manjaro's current structure? (2026/03/16 21:47)
I've read the announcement about the dev community wanting changes and some of the discussions around it. But all the talk of wanting the community to take control of the project made me realise I don't know much about how it's currently organised. I know there's a commercial firm but could only find this old article about it being set up, apparently to handle contracts etc and employ a couple of devs full time, though with vague mention of pursuing commercial opportunities: https://itsfoss.com/manjaro-linux-business-formation/ How does it work now? I'd much rather be using a distro that isn't heavily dependent on a profit making company if I can help it. submitted by /u/Slopagandhi [link] [comments]

  • Manjaro 2.0 Manifesto - Announcements (2026/03/14 20:09)
I'm using Manjaro for almost 10 years now. It was the only Distro that didn't shit its pants with my Workstation and its 3x Nvidia SetUp, back in the days and i've never looked back. Since then, it powers my Playputer, my Laptop etc.. We've heard about the recent -again- out of live cerificat, the laptop story etc.. I've never given much about it, since every distro has somewhat their little scandals - though the certificate is bit shaming for a Distro. But the updates came, my system was ok, the world was fine. Apparently - at least for me - the rift sits deeper. Basically, the Community & the Enterprise sides are in spat. But see for yourself. submitted by /u/poedy78 [link] [comments]
  • Monitor gets reset to 640x480 (2026/03/14 15:35)
Hi, For the second time in a long time I've installed Manjaro again because I want to get away from Ubuntu but I have this problem that I cannot solve for quite some time. I'm using two monitors and Nvidia GTX 1080, and randomly after rebooting my second monitor gets reset to 640x480 and the only way I can make it back to 1920x1200 is to physically unplug and plug in cable (either DP or power cable). This also happens when computer goes to hibernation except that if it gets waken up shortly after it goes to sleep (10 min, 30 min, 1h...) everything is as it was, correct resolution, but when I try to wake it after a longer period (overnight) it gets reset to 640x480, so every fix that I've tried took long time for me to verify that it doesn't work. I've tried almost everything that I could find but nothing solved it. I've came across an article here on reddit on sub r/linuxquestions that looked promising but eventually it didn't work for me either. To not copy paste my rather long comment there (and guide itself) here is a link: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/comments/1qzlzto/how_to_fix_linux_monitor_resolution_stuck_at/ Any help is much appreciated. • Record of repair - update broke lightdm, optimus-manager, and a trail of other things. Boot leads to blinking cursor for a few seconds then blank screen on loop (2026/03/13 10:52)
Just a 'for the record' incase anyone experiences similar problems: Did a big update recently then when I tried to boot again I got the cursor-then-blank loop forever. "journalctl -b -1" led me to a similarly repetitive error showing lightdm was failing because "no module optimus_manager found" Side note, I can't be sure if the very many attempts of the following helped: Boot from usb drive iso, Sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt Sudo mount /dev/sda4 /mnt/boot/efi Sudo pacman -Syu Sudo pacman -U var/cache/pacman/pkg/<all the linux kernels present in order>.pkg.tar.zst mkinitcpio -P sudo update-grub What seemed to have a positive effect was: Sudo pacman -R optimus-manager optimus-manager-qt Sudo pacman -Sc Yay -R optimus-manager optimus-manager-qt Yay -Sc Sudo pacman -R linux5(9 I think?) Sudo pacman -S linux618 Now booting normally. Don't understand the mechanism but hope this helps someone else submitted by /u/n0u0t0m [link] [comments]
  • Black screen after i press boot (2026/03/12 09:34)
I am trying to install manjaro on my pc but, i tried everything and every time i press the "boot with open source drivers" button it goes to black screen and doesnt do anything (also with the other button). I am launching with my usb and i tried using rufus and balena etcher but both give me the black screen. I hope this is enough info you need. I dont ask reddit that often so i hope this is a good post. Thank you in advance Edit: I am using a self build pc. My parts are. Amd radeon RX 7800 XT. B650 plus wifi motherboard. Amd ryzen 7. Solution: I found the problem it was my bios. I didn't update it for 3 years. submitted by /u/essejf112 [link] [comments]

  • Update broke something again. Missing a package. What sites are safe to download packages from? (2026/03/12 05:20)
Updating murdered my last functioning video player (previous updates murdered the other ones). It says I'm missing a dependency called "libsndio.so.7", so I was hoping I could revive it by installing that package. Unfortunately, searching for it in the package manager yields a "No package found" message. It occurs to me that I've been entirely dependent on the manager to provide me packages. Without it I have no idea where to get them. Much less which source is safe to use. Any recommendations? Edit: in the meantime, someone else has fixed my VLC (which broke about 5 years ago) so I can at least function. I would still like to get my other player working, though. submitted by /u/Obtus_Rateur [link] [comments]
  • Rant: Another system update with broken mirror lists (2026/03/12 04:29)
So this is the second time it has happened during 12 months now. Full system update and the mirror list gets overwritten with a completely broken list that doesn't work. Only solution is grabbing the mirror list for ipv6 manually from the wiki and repairing. "Easy user experience" would be ranked bottom for average day user on this one honestly. As much as I hate Ubuntu they at least didn't break my mirror during major updates. Is this a common occurrence for others too or am I just extremely unlucky? https://archlinux.org/mirrorlist/?ip_version=6 submitted by /u/valrossenOliver [link] [comments]

Am I correct in assuming that the installation will erase my data inside BTRFS, even though it doesn't say it will be formatted? Since the installer doesn't show subvolumes, I assume it can't handle them. submitted by /u/Upstairs-Comb1631 [link] [comments]

  • Where to report Manjaro Wiki issues? (2026/03/09 14:41)
I'm preparing to install Manjaro in the future and was googling / reading up on a few things, including the Rolling Release Model While opening the website https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/The\_Rolling\_Release\_Development\_Model It presented me with an internal server error, and several internal specifics that i would assume a normal user should not see, where should i report this? submitted by /u/AverageFloofsEnjoyer [link] [comments]
