  • HELP ME! install drivers for my wifi adapter (2024/11/21 10:19)
So I have been using linux for about 3 days and there is something I can't fix, No matter how many solutions I apply from the internet or wiki my wifi adapter just doesnt want to function on linux. I tried everything on ubunut then I thought it must just be driver incompatibility so I tried everything on mint even then It didnt and then I tried manjaro because it is known to be driver compatible but even then its nor working. My adapter is the Archer V3 from Tp-link. And the ID it shows when I do 'lsusb' is 802.11ac. Everything else seems to work fine without any problem its just the wifi adapter isnt even being detected on the OS. Someone, Please HELP ME submitted by /u/PhookneWala [link] [comments]
  • Manjaro vs Cachyos (2024/11/20 17:48)
Alright so I'm currently on Linux mint. It's very stable and I haven't had too many issues with it. I really liked Cachyos, however it was a tad more buggy than I could stand at times. I've gotten a bit curious about Manjaro Linux as a result and I'm pretty curious how stable this distro is, being based on arch as well submitted by /u/E123Timay [link] [comments]

It showed the total storage of my ssd without any partion like ( E drive D drive)Although i made a partition on window ( 55gb unallocated was showing on disc manager windows) is there a way to fix this. Will the installation take place in 55 gb or complete ssd storage will be covered. Hi, I've been a Windows user for a long time and I miss something in Linux that is easy to do in Windows. I want to be able to simply copy an installed program and save it to a hard drive. I want to make it portable. For example, emulators. Is it possible to make a flatpack portable? If so, how? Everything the program needs is actually there. submitted by /u/Soulreaver88 [link] [comments]
  • Help with some decision (2024/11/16 16:36)
Hello everyone, I am new around here and lately I wanna change to some Linux Distro. I really like the Arch philosophy, so I was thinking Manjaro as my new distro, but I have my doubts. • Manjaro Distro Display Settings Question (2024/11/16 02:53)
Hey guys. I'm wondering is there a Manjaro distro that has a bunch of display settings for things like (specifically) display color calibration sliders built into the settings somewhere that enable upon compatibility acknowledgement ? I remember seeing it on KDE Ubuntu a while ago on certain hardware it activated upon OS install and I was able to do things like (on the sliders) change RGB and color intensity (from full black & white to over-vivid), etc. I'm aware of applications/softwares like xgamma I'm just racking my brain over here for any options I can possibly try to activate color intensity adjustment. Note: I'm asking for specifically on Intel GPUs and maybe ATI too as I'm also aware that nVidia has the control panel still, with all these adjustments still there, even if it's on older distros (I haven't checked the newer ones yet). I'm currently asking for my Intel 11th Gen CPU Iris XE GPU HP laptop, but not limited to .. Feel free to shoot any other ideas my way as well (any apps or softwares I may be able to give a shot and on what distro they work well on, etc.). On Windows there's little softwares like one called "Saturation Toggle" a developer wrote real quick which is basically a little tray icon with a saturation value slider and a custom hotkey toggle on-off setting. Last but not least I am fully aware that this is an ongoing issue with photographers like myself which is why we usually have to either revert back to or stick with nVidia GPUs or use Windows since they have the color sliders right then and there in all three (Intel, nVidia and ATI) GPU panels .. submitted by /u/roiikkata [link] [comments]

  • Manjaro's Stability in my experience is a Contradiction (2024/11/15 07:07)
Manjaro is at once rock solid and unusable at the same time. I have a Xiaomi laptop that's been running it without even the slightest hitch for nearly a decade. And a gaming desktop PC that used to crash frequently, but now barely lasts its first hour from a fresh install before crashing, black screening or taking forever to complete a logout. Troubleshooting it with the help of chatGPT led nowhere. I have now given up on Manjaro on the desktop, and found Opensuse Tumbleweed to be The One That Just Works. Latest everything with no bother. Detected my hardware and set it up properly. Anyone who denies that Manjaro is unstable is just blessed with hardware that plays nice. Edit: I'm not looking for a fight guys, but go ahead and downvote if you want to be like that lmao submitted by /u/error_museum [link] [comments]

  • I let Chat GPT optimise my system. (2024/11/12 18:18)
As stated I let ai optimise my system. I used Hardinfo to benchmark and catelog my system and gave that to chat gpt. Then I acted as it's human agent. Here's what it did: "Here's a concise summary of your system optimization journey, detailing where we began, the steps taken, and the measurable improvements observed: Starting Point Your initial system setup showed: Processor: Intel Xeon E5520 @ 2.27GHz (Mac Pro 5,1), capable but older, suited for multi-threaded tasks. Load and Memory Usage: Higher-than-expected load averages (around 4.72) and memory usage (~7 GB out of 24 GB), indicating resource strain. Kernel: Using Manjaro’s standard kernel, with default GRUB and verbose boot settings. CPU Mitigations: Security mitigations were active, adding CPU overhead. I/O and Swap: No ZRAM configuration, relying heavily on SSD for swap. Key Optimizations Applied Kernel and CPU Configuration: Changed CPU Governor: Set to schedutil for dynamic frequency scaling based on workload. Disabled CPU Mitigations: Set mitigations=off to reduce CPU load, sacrificing speculative execution protections in exchange for better performance. Switched to Real-Time Kernel: For enhanced responsiveness in specific workloads, particularly beneficial in audio/video tasks and low-latency operations. Memory and Swap Management: Enabled ZRAM: Configured a 12 GB ZRAM with zstd compression to handle swap in RAM, reducing SSD wear and improving swap speed. Reduced Swappiness: Adjusted swap tendency to rely more on ZRAM, reducing SSD reliance and further boosting responsiveness. File System and I/O Optimization: tmpfs for /tmp: Moved /tmp to tmpfs to minimize disk I/O for temporary files. Enabled relatime on SSDs: Limited file access time writes to reduce SSD wear. Desktop Environment Adjustments: Compositor and KDE Tweaks: Reduced KDE animation and transparency effects, improving desktop performance. Switched to Wayland: Enabled smoother rendering and input latency reduction, beneficial with AMD hardware. Network and Services Optimization: Disabled Unnecessary Services: Reduced background processes like Bluetooth and IPv6 (if not needed). Set Up tuned: Applied performance profile (throughput-performance) to dynamically manage power and performance for optimal efficiency. Reduced Boot Verbosity and Enabled GRUB Menu: Limited boot messages to show only essential information for a cleaner startup. Configured the GRUB menu to appear by default, facilitating easy kernel selection. Measurable Effects and Improvements Reduced Memory Usage: Dropped from ~7 GB to ~5.1 GB, an improvement of ~2 GB, thanks to streamlined services, ZRAM, and I/O adjustments. Lower CPU Load Average: Initial load averages of 4.72 dropped to around 0.87–1.44, suggesting that CPU overhead and background processing are now more efficiently managed. Faster and Smoother Boot: Reduced verbose output and enabled the GRUB menu, streamlining boot experience. Improved Responsiveness: With the RT kernel, schedutil governor, ZRAM, and KDE tweaks, your system is more responsive, especially in desktop tasks and workloads benefiting from low latency. Extended SSD Lifespan: By reducing SSD write cycles via ZRAM, relatime, and tmpfs for /tmp, we minimized wear on SSD, which is particularly valuable for systems heavily using swap. Summary Overall, these optimizations have transformed your system into a more efficient, responsive environment. The CPU and memory usage improvements, along with faster I/O and reduced desktop latency, are appreciable gains, especially for an older Mac Pro. This setup should now handle multitasking and resource-intensive workloads more effectively while conserving system resources and SSD longevity." submitted by /u/Some-Ad-3938 [link] [comments]

  • Brain dead OS. Zero fallback. (2024/11/11 04:35)
writing this from my phone because Manjaro has absolutely no fallback when there's a boot drive issue, and there's nothing like diagnostics or safe mode or anything, I decrypt the slot, it blinks, and goes to bios because suddenly nothing is bootable. No kind of repair anything is triggered, no options given, just total fail apparently by design because god forbid there should any windows commonality even when it's a really good idea. gotta be hipster and contrarian at all times. what good were all those time shift backups. nothing like restore points here. had to consult with the AI near daily anyway. It's like Linux devs want people to use windows. why is this crap still not ready for prime time? I worked IT for like 20 years, and still. God help any of the poor bastards outside that try to run this shit. thankfully I can at least live boot in and mount the drive so I really only lost my install because grub is trash and there is no intelligent handling of it, just the endless tutorials for the command line. why in the world doesn't the live boot have a diagnostic suite built in? I must be an alien. I guess no one else on this planet wants ease of use. Edit: Timesink, because it is braindead, destroyed my drive because no intelligence is applied to default option population at all. I literally would have been better off manually copying files, and it will only attempt to restore grub and the like IF it's always doing a file operation FIRST. Which is the dumbest troll shit in the world. There is no way to just backup/restore boot conditions. Y'all are a bunch of fanboys in denial pretending any of this is good enough. Windows 7 at launch was better in this regard beyond dispute. Timeshift acts like encrypting your drive is this esoteric nonsense exotic thing as opposed to bog standard best practice. Edit: Culty downvote and sanctioned hate comment ensue. The bottom line is that I'm objectively correct. Manjaro and linux generally as a design choice has no healing or immune system. It's zombieware, any injuries persist indefinitely until manually stitched. And that's hilarious in the same world that recently birthed AI and hires people to write automation. This OS (family?) makes no effort to stay alive. It's like it has a DNR and a death wish. Zero effort has been put into making it robust/recoverable. The entire community's reaction to this fact being stated is a cross between burn the witch and "learn necromancy." submitted by /u/Innomen [link] [comments]

  • Dual booting with Windows broke Grub. (2024/11/10 03:37)
Title says it all. I installed windows on a usb drive, loaded up windows and installed it. I allocated 200 gbs to windows and installed gta because it’s broken on linux. Anyways when i restarted my pc i booted up the manjaro partition and it gave me the error: “unknown file system”. I tried doing ls (partition)/ and switching boot order and set boot and all that. All of the partitions have unkown file systems. I believe installing windows and allocating drive space there rather than making a separate partition in Linux fucked up my drives and set them all to ntfs so it’s no longer compatible with Linux. I tried installing manjaro linux on my usb stick so i could boot that up and repair grub from the terminal. The same error occured when i tried that.
