  • How to handle multi-monitor workspaces "The GNOME Way"? (2026/02/04 19:22)
I just moved my work M2 MacBook Pro to Fedora Asahi Remix. I’m a "vanilla GNOME" fan. I love the distraction-free, one-app-per-workspace workflow. However, I’m struggling to adapt it to multiple monitors. I've searched Reddit, YouTube, and I've asked AI, but none of the answers felt great. By default, I see two native options: Workspaces only on the primary display. Workspaces on all displays (but they switch in sync). Neither feels as fluid as the single-monitor experience. (A) Am I missing a core design philosophy or a "native" workflow that doesn't rely on heavy extensions? (B) Does anyone have a favorite video or guide on mastering the GNOME multi-monitor workflow? submitted by /u/MiracleWhipSux [link] [comments]
  • GDM Monitor resolution, refresh rate, orientation, scaling, primary, etc. (2026/02/04 18:19)
Hello, Whoever is annoyed by GDM having different monitor layout settings etc, all the tutorials online and even the GDM Settings app (Display --> Apply current display settings) just copy the ~/.config/monitors.xml to /var/lib/gdm/.config/, which does not apply any more with GNOME 49. The correct path to copy the ~/.config/monitors.xml is /etc/xdg/ And here's the command: sudo cp ~/.config/monitors.xml /etc/xdg/monitors.xml Just make sure you don't have VRR on at the time of copying the file, since that's unsupported by GDM, and will not work. Disable VRR, run the command, and enable VRR No permission modification required like you had to do with /var/lib/gdm/.config. Log out and see the change immediately! submitted by /u/asd308 [link] [comments]

  • How to change zathura document viewer's titlebar to follow system theme? (2026/02/04 09:49)
https://preview.redd.it/0tzdyqut8ghg1.png?width=964&format=png&auto=webp&s=6917d02ce07890687ce5c316fdf03fefd66d0cd0 Every other app follows the dark theme titlebar (some apps use their own, but nevertheless all are dark/black), but zathura document viewer seems to not follow. I'm sure entirely sure whether this is a gnome thing, but I think its quite related, do correct me if I'm posting in the wrong subreddit. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Kypheron [link] [comments]
  • Been at this for a while, how do I remove the circles from the window controls? (2026/02/04 02:06)

  • 3 dot tray icon Fix? (2026/02/03 15:06)
I'm new to Liunux, and spent an hour troubling shooting VLC RPM which I believe had the proper tray icon but wouldn't play videos (which isn't ideal for a video player) before reinstalling it from the flatpak. It now plays videos properly but the tray icon is bunked. Is there any fix for this? I downloaded Flatseal as per googleAI, but the suggested tweaks in there did not work. My other software with tray icons I installed through RPM as well, and their icons work. Is this going to be an issue with all flatpak tray icons? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! Oh, I'm on Fedora Workstation 43 if that matters. submitted by /u/Moooney [link] [comments]
  • Document Viewer/Papers/Evince not showing Bookmarks (2026/02/03 14:51)
Hi everyone, I am using Fedora 43 (Workstation) and GNOME 49. I want to use the default "Document Viewer" or at least use the GNOME approved one. One of the features I like to use when reading is the "Bookmark" feature as it allows me to organise for further understanding. However, even after trying to download several times both through Software center and the terminal flatpak specifically for the "Papers" GNOME app, I can't seem to see the "Bookmarks" tab or use the shortcuts in the system. I can see in the gallery of screenshots present in the webpage, that there should be the Bookmark tabs. Has anyone faced any similar problem? Thanks! • How I want Picture in Picture mode on GNOME to work (2026/02/03 13:36)
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/132 For when this gets merged, I think this style of picture in picture would fit GNOME the best So its animated when you enter into pip, then you can move it around and it sort of animates to a corner, I will add videos of that to the comments submitted by /u/FileWaste5999 [link] [comments]
  • I've seen a few people mention Gnome 50 is going to get better multi-window features, is there anywhere I can learn more? (2026/02/03 08:22)
I tried a Fedora based distro with Gnome and I really liked how Gnome felt but I run dual displays and I felt it left a lot to be desired. Like basic functions to have separate wallpaper slideshows per monitor just isn't a thing as far as I can tell. Gnome 50 has me curious what's coming down the pipe and I was wondering if there was a tracker somewhere or more than just "improvements are coming"? submitted by /u/TheOnceAndFutureDoug [link] [comments]

  • Deperto: A GNOME Extension for XFCE-style Zoom (Super + Scroll) (2026/02/02 19:36)
[Update] Deperto: XFCE-style "Zoom by Scroll" for GNOME (Now with custom shortcuts!) If you've ever migrated from XFCE or just hate reading tiny text on a high-DPI monitor, you probably miss the ability to just hold a key and scroll to zoom in exactly where you are looking. So I built Deperto. What it does: It takes the native GNOME magnifier and forces it to behave. It sets the tracking mode to "proportional" (so the zoom follows your cursor, not the center of the screen) and binds it to a modifier key + Scroll. Point your mouse at something interesting. Hold the key. Scroll wheel up. ENHANCE. One tiny detail: In standard GNOME, Super + Scroll usually switches workspaces. This extension hijacks that. We stole it. It's ours now. I consider this a feature, not a bug. (Note: That's not strictly true anymore with the new update, but I kept it because I like the joke.) ✨ UPDATE: What's New? Based on feedback, I've just pushed a big update: Customizable Shortcuts: You are no longer locked to the Super key. You can now choose Alt, Ctrl+Alt, Shift+Super, and others in the extension preferences. Workspace Switching Logic: We don't just "steal" the shortcut anymore; we swap it. If you set Zoom to Super + Scroll, the extension automatically maps Alt + Scroll to switch workspaces (and vice versa). UPDATE 2 Quick update on the Deperto extension. I realized that hijacking Super + Scroll was basically a declaration of war against GNOME’s workspace switching. To keep the peace (and your sanity), I’ve put the extension on a "shortcut diet." We are now down to two clean, conflict-free combos: Super + Alt + Scroll (The Secret Handshake): Our new default. 🤝 Ctrl + Super + Scroll (The Finger Gymnast): For those who like using all their digits at once. ⌨️ Now you can zoom in on those cat memes with surgical precision and fly into Workspace 4. Your eyes (and your workflow) will thank you! It's open source and I'd love to hear what you think! Note: Approval is currently pending on extensions.gnome.org, but you can grab it from GitHub right now and install it manually.
