  • Apps Randomly Freeze (2024/11/21 09:00)
    Does it only happen when you receive a message/ping? Did you disable your notification server?I've had this happen to me on Discord when I disabled notifications in my System Tray Settings on KDE Plasma, instead of hiding them. It is a known issue: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Discor … r_messagedI don't see it too unlikely for Signal to be having the same issue, if your other applications seem to work.Otherwise, it could help if you ran Discord from your terminal and see if any errors appear there when it freezes.
  • [SOLVED] FreeCAD Appimage neither running nor extractable (2024/11/20 22:07)
    When I try to run the latest Appimage of FreeCAD, I get execv error: No such file or directory.When I try to extract it with './FreeCAD_1.0.0-conda-Linux-x86_64-py311.AppImage --appimage-extract', it outputs This doesn't look like a squashfs image.Failed to open squashfs imageI tried the identical Appimage on Fedora 41 and POP!_OS 22.04. There, it works. Extracting it and the running the included executable also works.The behavior is also described in the freecad forum: https://forum.freecad.org/viewtopic.php?t=92230Has someone an idea?Other Appimages work fine (I tried OpenShot-v3.2.1-x86_64 and Ondsel_ES_2024.2.2.37240-Linux-x86_64). So it is probably nothing general.Link to FreeCAD Appimage: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/rele … 1.AppImageThanks!SOLUTION:uninstall appimagelauncher and reboot.See: https://github.com/TheAssassin/AppImage … issues/674 and https://github.com/AppImageCommunity/li … issues/193
  • [SOLVED] upspeedgraph and downspeedgraph broken in conky widgets (2024/11/20 21:20)
    Same for me.  I upgraded my distro to 22.04LTS and then network graphs (bar-style) would just show a solid block top-to-bottom, like it is running full-up and full-down.   Once I made the changes below, I'd got the normal look back to the graph, using the default colors (white on black).# Original-Line UpSpeed Graph:  ${offset 15}${upspeedgraph wlp3s0 40,285 4B1B0C FF5C2B 100 -l}# Updated-Line UpSpeed Graph: ${offset 15}${upspeedgraph "wlp3s0"}

  • [solved] issues with keyring (storage lost / cannot save new entries) (2024/11/20 20:13)
    libsecret seems to have a file backend, but that also seems to require you to decrypt it on every access (and issue the password for that) but "The name is not activatable" sounds a lot like it's set on using some keyring/wallet.But https://archlinux.org/packages/core/x86_64/libsecret/ also hasn't been updates since february.You could strace vinagre and see what files it tries to acces (and fails)

  • [SOLVED] Chrome starts extremely slowly in Sway with nvidia drivers (2024/11/20 03:15)
    Posting because I found lots of threads here and elsewhere from users experiencing this problem, and many of them don't seem to have solutions.Problem: in Wayland (in my case, Sway) with the nvidia driver (in my case, the open driver), Chrome would take 1 minute or longer to launch. The icon would appear immediately in the tray, but the application windows themselves would not appear.Solution: in my case, what solved it was installing xdg-desktop-portal-gtk. I already had xdg-desktop-portal-wlr installed, but apparently that doesn't provide everything:Multiple backends can be installed and used at the same time. For example, a Sway setup may use xdg-desktop-portal-wlr for screen sharing support and xdg-desktop-portal-gtk as a fallback for all other interfaces that xdg-desktop-portal-wlr does not implement.https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/XDG_De … l#BackendsPrior to installing xdg-desktop-portal-gtk, one of the messages when launching Chrome from the command line was a problem finding/calling something like "org.freedesktop.portal.FileChooser" (I don't have the exact message anymore).I hope this helps someone else struggling to find a solution for this problem!
  • Presentations in DWM... how to propagate to auxiliary monitor? (2024/11/19 23:07)
    I sometimes give presentations using Libreoffice Impress. The usual behavior is identical to that of MS Powerpoint: When you start a slideshow, it propagates to the second monitor, while on the first, the presenter is given a screen containing the current slide, a preview of the next, and other assorted information. This works out off the box using KDE, and probably any other standard desktop environment.I wouldn't expect to get that behavior out of the box in DWM, but I would have guessed there'd be a way to configure it. Thus far, I haven't found it. When I start the presentation I get the presenter's window, I'm not even sure where (if anywhere) the slideshow is going. It doesn't show up on any tags, and certainly not on the auxiliary monitor. Messing with the slideshow settings within Impress has not altered this behavior. Does anyone have any idea how to make this work?
  • KDE Plasma systemsettings fails to start on wayland (2024/11/19 19:16)

  • Container's user does not have write permissions in bind-mounted folde (2024/11/19 19:14)
    Lone_Wolf wrote:Upstream devs usually target distros using .deb or rpm and their code often need adjustments to work correctly on archlinux .Archlinux packages do those things for you, but if you install outside of pacman you are responsible for making those adjustments.Read https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Docker#Installation , verify you do have those services running and basic docker functionality works .The problem is that when I launch a container and I bind mount a folder, the user in the container cannot write in the folder, whether the container manager is docker or podman. What is the exact command that you use to bind-mount the folder and what does it output on terminal/log-files ?Hi, thanks for the reply. I've been trying to check yesterday about some things you asked, but unfortunately I did not have much time. I will provide a precise answer during the weekend. However, I wanted to point out some things:1. I've been imprecise while saying that docker has not been installed with pacman. In fact, I tried with both installation method (manual and pacman), and nothing changed. I will do a clean installation this weekend to see what happens.2. The same issue applies to podman, so for the sake of completeness, I will post the commands that I use also for podman, since its installation has been clean since the beginning (by using pacman), and (most importantly) it does not rely on system services to run, which may be another source of problem.3. Doing a chmod 777 . -R, or running my IDE as sudo are things that solve the issue, but it's very unsafe to do. We can conclude that the superuser in the container can access and modify the files: the problem must be related to the "normal" user.So, I will write again soon, and integrate the additional info to the original post, so that it will be easier to read
  • [SOLVED] pinentry-{qt|gtk} does not offer saving passphrase via lib... (2024/11/19 15:14)
    \o/Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.Thanks.Do you still get KPluginFactory could not create a KCModule instance from /usr/lib/qt6/plugins/pim6/kcms/kleopatra/kleopatra_config_gnupgsystem.so ?The only other reference to that is that manjaro thread.=> https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?quicks … AkleopatraThe /usr/lib/ld-linux.so.2 error is probably a red herring, ldd still prints the linked objects, so ld-linux.so.2 probably only fails on a test-bite to figure that this ain't a 32bit ELF.
  • [SOLVED] Hyprland headers missing in package (2024/11/19 09:38)
    The hyprland package has been broken since hyprland-0.45.0-1.There is a bug report (https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/ … /issues/15) in the package's Gitlab repository, with a merge request that fixes the problem, but the maintainers haven't noticed it. I think there may have been a problem in the past with spam, and it could be they don't have notifications turned on. But the fact is there have been updates to the package in the last week, and all contain the issue. The simple merge request in the bug report would fix it, and many people have been using the workaround manually since last week.This problem has created a flow of bug reports upstream and in plugin repositories, as it is not possible at the moment to build any plugins (version in the headers invalid),Is there a way to make the maintainers notice this bug report in case it slipped through the cracks?Thank you.Edit: The package was updated!! Thank you.
