- ELI5: How do satellites stay in orbit for decades without running out of fuel or falling back to Earth? (2026/02/03 19:11)So I was reading about the James Webb telescope and some GPS satellites that have been up there since like the 90s and it got me thinking. My car needs gas every week just to drive around, but these satellites just chill in space for 20+ years doing their thing. I know theres no air resistance up there but don't they still need to make adjustments and corrections? Like how do they not just slowly drift away or fall back down over time I was gonna take an astronomy class at community college but I've got some money saved up for other stuff right now and figured I'd just learn online instead, but this has been bugging me for a while. Do they have some kind of super efficient engines or is there something about physics in space that im missing here?
- ELI5: Why doesn't snoring wake the snorer up? (2026/02/03 18:58)Logically, the person snoring would be first to wake up because they are making the noise. Yet they don't. How is it that snoring wakes everyone else up but the person snoring?
- ELI5: What is the difference between a computer monitor and a modern TV? (2026/02/02 21:35)With all of the improvements in resolution with modern TVs, what are the benefits of using a computer monitor over a TV? Both connect via HDMI. The TVs I've seen are much less expensive than monitors of similar size. Primarily I use a Macbook, but occasionally I need a larger screen for occasional photo editing and to open multiple windows. I had been using an older dual-monitor set up, but was looking to upgrade to a 34" wide monitor. However, seeing the price and features of modern TVs, I'm starting to rethink that option.
- ELI5. Steering Wheel Airbag (2026/02/02 18:19)Hello! So I'm sitting in my car on my lunch break just staring off into space. I glance down at my steering wheel and started to wonder. I can't show a photo here but I have a '22 Toyota Corolla and the steering wheel has this big plastic cap, the thing you press to engage the horn, with the silver Toyota emblem on it. I'm wondering when the air bag ever goes off, where in the world does this big cap go? Does it hit me square in the face in the event of an accident? Did they think of that? Does it just explode into a million pieces? There isn't a seam in the center like some cars, it's just one whole piece. Is that not dangerous, or am I missing something? EDIT: Thank you so much everyone who commented! My mind is at ease. Also thanks for not making me feel silly lol. This was all very informative and I appreciate you!

- ELI5 Why do garage door springs need to store instant-death levels of energy? (2026/02/01 17:32)Question is the title. Is there not a less dangerous way?
- ELI5: Why don’t deer shiver all the time in freezing winter weather? (2026/02/01 15:45)I live in a cold climate where winter temperatures are often between -10°F and 20°F. I see deer outside all the time, but they never seem bothered by the cold. They aren’t constantly shivering, and they don’t look heavily insulated like bears. So how do deer stay warm and function normally in temperatures that would be miserable for humans?
