Inter Profile Sharing, Easily share media and text between Android user profiles, was newly added, allowing you to share data between Android User profiles. User profiles come in several forms, most common one is the Work Profile and Android expanded over the years how these function and different manufacturers choose different ways to support them (eg. some have a ‘Clone apps’ feature). Profiles allow separation between apps and data, as the user sees fit, but if need arises to throw files and data over the fence to another profile, the newly added app will surely help.
Headwind MDM Agent was updated to 6.11, making the proposition for a FOSS Mobile Device Management (MDM) System for Android. We usually see proprietary solutions for this type of software, and while we’d be against limiting users freedom in using their devices, this might make sense in some situations.
Minetest was updated to 5.10.0 but now it bares a new name: Luanti. The whole name thing was the subject of discussions since Minetest started and you can read more about the decision in the team blog post. Latest version also brings some nice features, detailed in a separate post.
OSM Dashboard for OpenTracks and OSM Dashboard Offline for OpenTracks were updated to 5.0.0, and upgraded to reproducible builds. What does this mean? F-Droid now hosts the developer signed packages, but this also entails the need for its past users to uninstall old versions and reinstall the new one.
Removed Apps
12 apps were removed
ForRunners, Track your personal fitness, hasn’t seen an update since 2018.
We’ve covered the issue of the famously orange Simple Mobile Tools suite a year ago, and during this time, the green Fossify suite grew to completion. So the time has come to say our goodbyes to the following apps: Simple Calculator, Simple Calendar Pro, Simple Camera, Simple Clock, Simple Contacts Pro, Simple File Manager Pro, Simple Keyboard, Simple Launcher, Simple Music Player, Simple Notes Pro and Simple Voice Recorder.
The apps are now archived, so if you want them you can still get them, but we encourage everyone to embrace the green suite and switch already.

This Week in F-Droid

Community News
Fennec F-Droid and Mull were updated to 132.0.0, after a two months hiatus where everyone was holding their breath, while we didn’t have time to catch our breath. Lost dependencies, home movements, angry forum posts, rebuilt dependencies, angry toots, added NDKs, stopped cycles (twice!), changed built dependencies, explainer toots, timeouts, closed forum threads, it was a non-stop roller coaster, yet compressed in a slit of time and only for two apps.
In other news, Fennec has Translations activated by default. This enables users to read any (supported) language text without leaving the current page.
While we didn’t expect any drama, Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox, A 100% open source, privacy focused email app, (yes the one of Desktop fame!), and its companion Thunderbird Beta for Testers were newly included. They are based on K-9 Mail, also updated to 8.0, but with some cosmetic and branding differences. A little bit of backstory, back in 2022 it was announced that K-9 Mail joins the Thunderbird family, so it was just a matter of time for it to become the new app.
And the time has come, the app is ready, albeit most K-9 users got notified about this launch because of a Mozilla source code repo mistake, as the metadata (icon, pics, text) of K-9 were mixed up with Thunderbird and F-Droid said it will update Thunderbird Beta for Testers instead of K-9. Fediverse and our Forum users got up in arms at this bit of info, only visible in F-Droid, that felt like an app takeover, and unfortunately many jumped to conclusions and uninstalled K-9 instead of looking in their launchers to see that there’s no new app and K-9 is still fine. All is well now, and many took this opportunity to switch to Thunderbird following the import steps.
What about K-9’s future? Well, Mozilla says they “plan to continue maintaining and releasing K-9 Mail for approximately one year after the release of Thunderbird for Android”.
Ghost Commander was updated to 1.64.1b1 and we took the opportunity to note that on newer Android versions SFTP connections that use Kerberos authentication might not work as a dependency is missing.

This Week in F-Droid
TWIF curated on Thursday, 31 Oct 2024, Week 44
F-Droid core
F-Droid and F-Droid Basic were updated to 1.20.1 as suggested and to 1.21.1 still in testing.
Some updates on last weeks fires:
Nextcloud was updated to 3.30.3 and Nextcloud Dev was updated to 20241026, as some users still reported issues, was this fire extinguished for you?
Codeberg polished their filters and F-Droid server could finally build apps hosted there again.
Fennec F-Droid and Mull made waves in the Fediverse and beyond as they were marked as vulnerable. We answered most of the questions, it was just a bad timing between new releases fixing critical bugs, tooling issues preventing F-Droid to build these apps and our main contributors being caught up in Real Life. Mozilla source code is just the starting point, and F-Droid must clean it up and build it from open-source code with trusted build tools, and this takes time before it even reaches the build server.
We will reword the banner message in the Client to make it sound less scary and use the existing Anti-Features app details field to give as much info as possible.
Regarding the new update 132, while everything was in place for a build, and an issue caught early at the start of this cycle was promptly fixed, we are still seeing it fail later on and we are investigating. So this update will be delayed for another cycle.
While all these fires were raging on, we also overhauled our workflow for checkupdates (the bot that pulls in all the autoupdated apps versions) touching upon fdroidserver, fdroiddata and many Gitlab configurations. These changes might not be visible from a user perspective, but they should yield some improvements in helping contributors manage the metadata repository, and catching app issues early on, before they reach the build server.

This Week in F-Droid
TWIF curated on Wednesday, 23 Oct 2024, Week 43
F-Droid core
Just after the last TWIF was published we thought it will be just another nice and chill weekend, little did we know that things will just light up. Like Client issues after Android upgrades, users devices synchronizing the same data on and on until devices got hot, like users mobile data phone bills going over the monthly data quotas, like VPN connections never starting and users losing access to their data, like contacts never to be added to remote phone-book addresses or like build servers being blocked by code forges too eager to apply scorched-earth firewall rules.
So let’s take them step by step.
Apps on fire?
F-Droid and F-Droid Basic were updated to 1.21.0, but you knew this since the last TWIF. Yet, if you didn’t manually update yet, maybe refrain until the next 1.21.1 version is out. We are building it as we speak so it should be out soon.
Why a dot release already? We noticed that in certain repo/preferred setups, and tied to Android version upgrades, some internal database was not reset correctly and might lead to a crashing state leaving Client unusable.
DAVx⁵ was updated to 4.4.3.2-ose to fix some crashing bugs, but luckily this version was spotted by our contributors just in time for a cycle, so many users might not have had a chance to update to the broken one.
Nextcloud was downgraded to 3.30.0 because on upgrade some “internal sync timestamp would be null”. Not a Mars Climate Orbiter level of failure, but it still got a lot of users up in arms, and up in phone bills, as the app would sync the same data continuously in a loop, for gigabytes until caught. The upstream issue is really long, but be sure that we got all the email notifications and the fixed update is building as we speak.
Tailscale was downgraded to 1.72.0 as the newer versions were crashing. It’s a combination of F-Droid recipe complexity (as we need to build a lot of stuff ourselves from source) and upstream code base complexity. While @linsui spotted this early, the first broken update was already on the way to the users devices. We are working with upstream for a speedy recipe update, more info in the upstream issue.
Servers on fire? Not quite…
While we bemoan the majority of developers using the proprietary Github servers to host their source code repositories, we also encourage them to seek friendlier more open services, like those that you can self-host based on SourceHut, Gitea, Forgejo or Gitlab, or, if not possible, at least some hosted by others, like we use gitlab.com (not without grievances) ourselves.
One such instance that rose to fame is also the main force behind the Forgejo software, Codeberg.org, based in Germany. Last week they had a handful of work to do, between a DDOS “attack”, repositories storage abuse, server hardware upgrades, a new Forgejo version update to deploy and countless server downtime instances, both of the scheduled and of the surprise type.
What has this to do with F-Droid? Well, contributors saw that Codeberg servers were unreachable from time to time, and we started to look up why. They posted that “We are struggling with excessive crawling today. .. It’s the #AIgoldrush. The web was completely crawled, just not by everyone yet.” and explained that to counter such abusive behavior they started blocking more and more Internet hosts. And that is fine, ‘business as usual’ when hosting on the Internet.
Yet we started to see some apps fail to build, only to find that those were apps hosted on Codeberg and the server logs were clear error: RPC failed; HTTP 429 curl 22 The requested URL returned error: 429 which translates to “HTTP response code 429: Too Many Requests”. Basically Codeberg treats F-Droid as an abuser, even though we didn’t download anything from their servers for a couple of days. We are collateral damage in their fight against abuse!
But you could just give them your IP so they’ll make an exception, right? Yes and no. We’ve let them know that they block us, at the same time for privacy and security reasons we’d like to keep our information private. And there’s also a question of measured response from their part, adding more and more IPs to your firewall will keep the bad actors out but you might not have a way to see how many innocent users were blocked too.
F-Droid has about 104 apps that live in Codeberg, we started to mirror a couple of those repos as a first test, but it’s a lot of manual work to setup and keep in sync, on top of our regular maintenance, also it might not fix other issues down the build pipeline, like binaries for reproducible builds.
We hope Codeberg finds a way to fix this, and still keep abuse at bay!
Community News
Android at liberty, a brief summary is a Spanish written blog post about F-Droid and some of its “must have” apps.
Time flies in Android land, and while we sometimes notice it (hey F-Droid is 14 years old already!), we rarely ponder its scale. For example BusTO, Turin (Italy) public transport, will celebrate its 10 years anniversary next week. You can read the developer announcement from back then and try to remember what was I doing back in October 2014?
We had Spanish, then an Italian app, let’s have Polish too. Last year Tymoteusz Jóźwiak blogged about “Open source apps for Android? F-Droid!” telling us about how to install F-Droid and eight of their favorite apps. Now they are back with a Part 2 and another batch of interesting apps, and more thoughts on the technology around us.
Audio Recorder was updated to 0.9.99 after a 3 year pause, with some nice polish (gotcha!) and new features.
Conversations Classic, Encrypted, easy-to-use XMPP instant messenger for your mobile device, is a fork of Conversations that tries to keep the old, pre-Material You theming and add some other requested features on top. While we salute its devs enthusiasm, and acknowledge the FLOSS spirit of forking, we also have to listen to the Conversations developer and our own rules which state that “a fork must change appid, name, graphics and texts” to make it clear that it is a separate thing from the original app. Initially the developers looked eager to fix this misunderstanding yet two months later nothing was changed. So we took the liberty to remove the app, for now, and once these complains are fixed we can re-include it back.
DSub2000, Android client for Subsonic servers, is a new fork of the old DSub that’s no longer developed.
gpsdRelay was updated to 1.2 bringing a new signing key. Yes the developer is apologizing for the mix up. If you had the app installed please uninstall your old version and reinstall the new one.
And while we’re there, Railway station photos was updated to 16.0.0 and the app was upgraded to “reproducible builds“, hence a new key too. We have the same advice as above to reinstall, but from a different perspective, and we feel a better one.
HyperRogue was updated to 13.0a after a long pause, as the last version had a bug that made it really hard to start the game. Take a look at the release post to get to know the new features.
Micro REPL, MicroPython IDE, is out for a cycle, as the developer lost the signing key. It’s rebuilt while we write these lines so it should be fine. Once back we will ping you to reinstall it as needed.
OpenTTD was updated to 14.1.rev128, but it’s actually a republished version as we fixed the package size, the old one was pretty bloated.
Proton Pass: Password Manager was updated to 1.26.1, after a single cycle where it was missing, as we reworked part of the recipe to cope with the newer dependency scanner rules.
Ripple: respond when panicking was updated to 0.3.0 after 5 years, but it’s just an update to support newer Android versions and better translations.
SimpleX Chat was updated to 6.1 bringing a lot of new features and fixes based on a fresh security audit. The team has a 15 minutes long blog post that explains why you are encouraged to update.
Syncthing was updated to 1.28.0 but this might be one of the last updates for the app. The developers are tired of fighting that one centralized store, their never-ending rules and opaque conditions. You can read more here and here. You could backup your settings and restore in the currently developed Syncthing-Fork, and don’t forget to support its developer too while you’re at it!
The Kana Quiz was updated to 0.15.1-pure at last, after 3 years, as our own @linsui fixed a build issue.
Tuta Calendar, Quantum-safe encrypted planner to schedule & manage your events & sync calendars, joins Tuta Mail in F-Droid. While the mail app already has the Calendar integrated, the team wrote a blog post explaining why they chose to have it as a separate app too.
VLC was updated to 3.6.0 Beta 2, not yet suggested but easily installable by brave users.

This Week in F-Droid
TWIF curated on Thursday, 17 Oct 2024, Week 42
F-Droid core
I hope this note finds you in good health. By the time this post reaches you, final F-Droid Client and Basic 1.21.0 went live, but not yet suggested. Did you test the alpha releases? No? Let’s hope someone did on your special device and Android version combo, I mean I run bleeding edge here and it works fine. 🤷
The full changelog since the last alpha1 is:
Fix race conditions when repositories are updated at the same time
Don’t crash when Bluetooth permissions are missing
Fix launching panic settings from Panic app (e.g. Ripple)
Fix permission issue that prevented full and basic installed at same time
Update UI if the repository disable warning is canceled
Nothing exciting, as expected, we’re polishing the experience in this 6 months long development cycle.
Based on your feedback, and more of our internal testing, this will be promoted to suggested soon.
Missed the gist about why 1.21.0 is great? Go read the week 40 intro and take a peek at the full changelog between releases.
Unfortunately there’s no targetSdkVersion bump with this new version, but the good news is that it looks like only the Bluetooth permission needs some fixes, so we are pretty close.
Since you want some drama and excitement, you can read about what the future will bring, as AndroidAuthority peeks into the F-Droid development and writes about “F-Droid being the first third-party app store to support Android 15’s app archiving feature”.
Community News
Did you know that the Internet was invented for cat pics? Yes, they even have their own domain name .cat and that’s a true story I swear! 😸
On a serious note, the Catalan community launched a call to action for a “Collaborative translation into Catalan of F-Droid”. This was back in July, and we missed it, but we see there’s a bit more work to do to reach that 100%, so another pair of eyes might be helpful anyway.
Element X - Secure Chat & Call was updated to 0.6.5 after 4 months of missing out, as the Element team worked to replace the components that made the app builds non-deterministic. Reproducible builds are harder to setup and maintain, but both teams understand their importance.
NextGIS Mobile, GIS that lets you create, edit and export geodata, both online and offline, was updated to 2.8.0 after an 8 year long pause. Thanks to @linsui for digging into old apps recipes and fixing them. This app had the Google Analytics code cleaned up.
Newly Added Apps
5 apps were newly added

This Week in F-Droid
TWIF curated on Thursday, 10 Oct 2024, Week 41
F-Droid core
Nothing new to add, just that we hope more users get a chance to test 1.21.0-alpha1, and if you did not already, do peruse the full announcement from last week. The more of you test it, and complain, the faster we can polish it and release it.
If you’re not using F-Droid in English, do test the alpha, and please take a look at your locale translation completion status in the Translation portal. Do try to get your translations to 100% complete and fix the failing checks!
Community News
Do You Have a Moment to Talk about F-Droid? If you’re reading this you might know a thing or two about F-Droid, but maybe you want to help a friend or guide them through a first time installation? While a picture might be worth 1000 words, the people from GNU/Linux.ch have a post and a 7 minute video that explain how to install F-Droid and Fennec, the browser based on Mozilla Firefox. While they’re in German, one does not need to understand the language of wurst, sauerkraut und pretzel to be able to follow the steps. Have fun watching!
PPSSPP, the PSP emulator, was updated to 1.17.1 after 9 years! The changelog would be huge, but you can read the app news page and pickup interesting release notes over the years.
Ruler (Privacy Friendly) was updated to 1.1.1 after 8 years of hibernation. I guess you already measured everything by now, but none the less.
VLC was updated to 3.5.5, but don’t get excited, this is just a targetsdk bump and nothing else. We’re already looking at the next beta version, feel free to lend a hand if you can.

Autumn Cleaning
Is there a perfect number of apps? Was 4480 that? Is 3850? We say it might not matter.
While devices come year after year with more storage and faster processors, your number of installed apps might be constant by now. Besides the usual calls and SMS apps what do you have? A gallery app, a video player, a couple of file readers (PDF/office type), a notes/todo app, file manager, email, browser, maps app, an encrypted messaging app, maybe a couple of games, audio recorder, a 2FA app, calculator, calendar, audio&video player, keyboard, a step counter, maybe some more niche things. How many are those, 25-30? Even less as some come with your device already?
Two years ago we said: “From the point of the user, the ideal app store would contain exactly what the user wants, and not one thing more. Nobody has millions of apps installed on their device. All those extra apps just get in the way of finding what is important”. And we stand by that. Do we have quirky apps? Of course we do, else life would be boring (just don’t search for “strawberry”or “worm”). But these are just icing on top of good, transparent, free or open-source apps that put their purpose over flashy UIs and care about the user’s wellbeing without trying to sell their lifehood to the highest bidder.
We continue the trend of looking at more apps from the past and moving some to the Archive repo.
You can read week 38th TWIF explanatory section for more details.

Thank you for reading this week’s TWIF and for translating F-Droid Client, specially since 1.21.0 was just tagged, but maybe you still have time to check and polish your locale. We wait, go! 🙂
Please subscribe to the RSS feed in your favourite RSS application to be updated of new TWIFs when they come up.
You are welcome to join the TWIF forum thread. If you have any news from the community, post it there, maybe it will be featured next week 😉
To help support F-Droid, please check out the donation page and contribute what you can.
I believe privacy and freedom are fundamental rights and should be available
to everyone in the world. A few years ago, I’ve started translating FOSS
apps on Weblate, which has evolved to me
being a maintainer of many projects, including F-Droid. Now I’ve finally
finished reviewing all website strings and I’m happy to announce that the
website is now also available in the Czech language! F-Droid is used by many
even here in the Czech Republic, and I believe this will help even more
users to discover this awesome project.
Many thanks also to the past volunteer translators, without whom the
translation would have taken me much longer. If you think you can also help
with translating F-Droid, feel free to! You can find all information in the
documentation.
You can also help F-Droid by contributing to the
code, reporting
issues or making a
donation. Any help is appreciated!
If you need to contact me, you can find me in the F-Droid
Translators room on Matrix. Next
step is translating the documentation and posts, so if you can lend a hand,
I’d be very happy!
And of course, thanks to all F-Droid maintainers and contributors for making
this awesome project!
This Week in F-Droid
TWIF curated on Thursday, 03 Oct 2024, Week 40
F-Droid core
F-Droid and F-Droid Basic were updated to 1.21.0-alpha1 bringing a fix for a long standing pain point: background index updating. During Android’s development, Google restricted more and more when and how often apps can do their own thing in the background, and the old client codebase was still from 2016 or so. Development finally caught up implementing modern scheduling that’s shaped by the system and by you, its user, taking advantage of networks being available, idle times and more.
The full changelog since the last alpha0 is:
Rewritten repo updater to make background updates more reliable
Time of next scheduled update visible in settings
Fix case insensitive search containing diacritics (Thanks Tobias!)
Fix crash when deleting repo from repo details screen
Update anti-feature descriptions (Thanks Licaon!)
Add tethered net anti-feature (Thanks linsui!)
Ignore whitespaces when adding mirror repos (Thanks Tobias!)
Of note from that list, in Settings - Automatic update interval now there’s info about when the next update is scheduled, and it dynamically updates based on the frequency slider. Keep in mind that the Over Wi-Fi and Over data slider settings still govern over everything, so if you see “next: 2hr. ago” it means that the deadline was exceeded and the next time you are on the allowed network it will check for updates. But given that F-Droid supports delta-updates for a while now, this might change in the future, as each index update is just a few hundred kilobytes big making mobile data consumption a moot point.
Another change that you might want to revise, TetheredNet is now a separate anti-feature too. We explained last month how it came to be, and we ask you to toggle it ON in Settings - Include Anti-Features now until the upgrade bugs are fixed.
As usual we want you to give this update a good look so bugs can be shallow and a stable release comes sooner for everybody. To update to this alpha you can go into F-Droid details screen and either, expand Versions and manually upgrade, or go to the upper right menu and check “Allow Beta Updates”.
NOTE: A bug was found later in the development process and if you run both F-Droid and F-Droid Basic, only one can be updated to the latest alpha. The permission conflict was fixed subject of a future release.
Community News
Trevor Slocum, the developer of Xenia, Meditation Assistant and Boxcars, has some nice words to say “On the importance of F-Droid”. The 8 minutes long piece might shed some light from the perspective of an app developer, touching upon many themes we sometimes rant in these TWIFs too. Have a good read!
LabNex, Android app for GitLab, is a nice addition, from the developer of GitNex for Forgejo and Gitea, and being in development, we hope it will surpass the already old and crusty LabCoat. For good measure we also started to ‘bomb’ the developer with feature requests. 😁
Linwood Butterfly Nightly was updated to 2.2.0 and Linwood Butterfly will come by the time you read this TWIF.
Its developer, CodeDoctor, wanted us to highlight some of the new features like:
📁 New layer system
✅️ Improved multi select in file view
⚙️ New on startup settings
🔧 Restriction options for manipulating elements
🧰 Improved toolbar
Plus many more things that you can read about in the dedicated post.

Autumn Cleaning
We continue the trend of looking at more apps from the past and moving some to the Archive repo.
You can read last week’s explanatory section for more details.
Special thanks to Aholic Gino for contributing the time to test most of these apps and help keep F-Droid repo fit. Users often complain about having too many choices of apps for some tasks (paradoxically) but more often complain that they need to swim between old apps that might not even work let alone have a future.

To help support F-Droid, please check out the donation page and contribute what you can.
Back in 2010, Ciaran
Gultnieks created F-Droid to bring free software to Android. It has since
grown to have many contributors from around the world, millions of users,
and its own legal entity with an esteemed Board of
Directors. F-Droid has
become its own thing bigger than any one of the contributors. We have just
taken of the last key steps to cementing that: the f-droid.org and related
domain names have been migrated to processes that are community-controlled
with oversight from the Board of Directors. We thank CiaranG for all his
work maintaining the domains over the years.
This also eliminates a bottleneck of configuration changes. We have a
Systems Adminstration
Team
for secure and shared maintenance of our key infrastructure. Thanks to
funding from Open Tech Fund (OTF), the Systems
Adminstration Team set to work making the official F-Droid domains be as
secure as possible. We have moved our DNS servers for our official domain
f-droid.org. This change helps improve our “bus
factor”, which means we are less
dependent on a single person to keep the project running smoothly.
We’ve used this opporunity to roll out additional DNS security
measures. Since the jabber.ru
incident happened, it seems to
us that both migrating to more trustworthy hosting providers and increasing
DNS security is more important than ever.
We started by adding a Certification Authority
Authorization
DNS record. A CAA record is a way for website owners to specify which
companies may issue security certificates for their website. This should
help us to detect network attacks like the one against
jabber.ru. Additionally we have started monitoring certificates of our
domain names in
certificate transparency
logs. This will
hopefully help us detect if someone tries to issue a malicious certificate
in our name. These measures should significantly raise the bar for
man-in-the-middle attacks on our transport encryption.
Over the years, we have received many requests to enable
DNSSEC
for improved security. Rightfully so. Now that we have a new DNS provider,
we have successfully rolled it out.
We’ve also recently finished moving our email server, a task that was long
overdue. F-Droids new email provider now implements all the technical nitty
gritties like SPF, DKIM, DMARC, which are ever more important since big
E-Mail providers started blocking mails from E-Mail servers without those
features.
This Week in F-Droid
TWIF curated on Thursday, 26 Sep 2024, Week 39
Community News
F-Droid Build Status was updated to 5.6.4 and no one will get this update. Why? Well, the app is now built reproducibly so if you have it installed you need to uninstall it and then reinstall it. (Yes, we wish this switch to be easier to perform, but the UI is not there yet)
Firefox 130 and 130.0.1 were released September 3rd and 17th with 15 security fixes, however Fennec and Mull builds will be delayed due to Google removing a necessary component from the NDK in revision 27, apparently to “save some storage space”. 😐
FlorisBoard was updated to 0.4.0 after a two year pause, if you’re the kind that looks a keyboard in the mouth, do peak at the extensive changelog.
Status: Crypto Wallet, Messenger, Ethereum Browser was updated to the newly designed 2.30.0 after an one and a half year hiatus. The feature list is too long, but the devs have a blog post that details everything. (App screenshots will be updated soon)

Community News
APatch, The patching of Android kernel and Android system, is a new powerful Root tool, which is similar to Magisk but also provides more features. It supports Magisk modules and it runs in the kernel so it can hide the Root better.
ArcaneChat, ⚡ Fast encrypted chats for the family 🎉, is a newly added Delta Chat fork with a penchant for experimentation. We hope that all the good stuff might eventually get added to the official Delta Chat client too, eg. reproducible builds.
FluffyChat was updated to 1.22.0, but that’s a week old news, as you are already enjoying your authenticated media. We also heard the voices of armv7 Element users and they can update today too, no need to feel left behind. Albeit there’s something to be said about running armv7-only devices in the current year.
Ghost Commander was updated to 1.63.1b6, bringing slowly paced updates to that old-school dual-pane file navigator. The legend says that once you understand the dual-pane power, you can never go back!
Notesnook - Private notes app was updated to 3.0.17, but did you know that since 3.0.15, published last week, you can use your own Sync Server? Just navigate to Customization > Servers and input the URL to your hosted one, as its source code is readily available. Before you start typing ssh ... do peruse this draft unofficial hosting guide and keep an eye on the server repo releases and discussions.
Wire • Secure Messenger was updated to 4.8.4-20981-fdroid after a 2 year pause. It is now freshly designed, completely rebuilt app, with a lot of improvements and added features.
Autumn Cleaning
Last month we said: “Translations are the easiest way to help”, but we might have lied, for F-Droid itself, the easiest thing to do is to report a broken app. And you might do that unintended, with a glimmer of hope in your eyes, you find an app that you want to install, and when you run it… nothing happens, or you get a screen full of toggles to select yet still end up to a blank screen, or maybe it starts fine but then its functions don’t seem to work. Well, this often happens, as developers are humans themselves, they might get tired, bored or plain move away from the project. Android evolves, moves, changes. Sites that apps depend on change their APIs or get shutdown. It takes a village full of tools developers, app developers, F-Droid contributors and you the user, to shape an app to its current form.
F-Droid Client itself is in constant change (hey, did you try the alpha releases yet?) as features are added, bugs get fixed and the app is polished with every new version. We’ve talked about Android forcing some changes upon developers and users alike, with both the good parts and the bad. The thing to remember is this: somebody needs to maintain an app else you’ll end up losing its functionality, sooner rather than later.
In maintaining the F-Droid repo, we don’t only add new apps or fix app updates, we also have the dreary task of dealing with apps that are no longer fit for the repo. Maybe somebody reports 2 apps that might have issues, maybe adds 8 more that can’t connect to some crusty site. Then someone else tells you about some 19 apps where the developer deleted the source code repository and the mic drops when they prepare the changes for 284 apps to be archived because the source code is in read-only mode and development stopped. It’s an ongoing process…
You wondered about the post title? Now it will make sense.
So before you expand the section below, prepare your favorite beverage and read on.
Why were all these apps removed? There were not actually removed, but archived.
Why were all these apps archived? Because even if working, their source code is in stasis, in a frozen state.
Why does this matter since we can still see it? We can see it, yet no one maintains it. If somebody finds a bug in the code they can’t report it at all since the issue tracker is also locked, let alone release a fixed version.
What happens if I had one installed? Nothing happens, they continue to be installed. Whether they continue to work or not in the future is not something that F-Droid has any influence on.
Why can’t I find the app when I search for it in Client/website if not removed? By archiving, apps are moved to the Archive section of the F-Droid repository.
So I can’t install any of them? You sure do can, activate the Archive and do as you please. We recommend you to disable the Archive for normal usage.
So it’s not a bad thing if nothing changed? It’s mostly a bad thing, in time. Apps might stop working just by updating your Android, or fail to install when you switch to your new device. If vulnerabilities are found in the app or its dependencies, you’ll run a vulnerable app, even worse if it connects to the Internet.
But app X is an unique snowflake and needs to be available!!! Feel free to talk with us, maybe that one can come back.
What if I fork the repo and continue its development? This is a good thing, two ideas to keep in mind, first, if the original developer agrees we might be able to update the original app (conditions might apply, reproducible builds might interfere etc), second, if they don’t agree you’ll have to create a real fork with new appid, new icon, new name, new everything, and we’ll add it as a new app.
When reviewing the app list, contributors felt a bit of sadness, it’s not only about developers letting go, but also about all the time translators put into these apps, users testing and reporting bugs, and F-Droid contributors helping at inclusion or app updates. Do we have a Ringdroid replacement now? No. Was Stringlate useful? Yes, we fondly remember using it for many translations, yet a translation portal is way better today.
What’s next? Read the list, crosscheck your devices, take a note of any apps that got archived and try to find replacements as soon as possible.
Note to developers: When you cease development, do ping us and talk with us about the situation, so that we can better manage the decision on whether the app should be archived immediately or not.

This Week in F-Droid
TWIF curated on Thursday, 12 Sep 2024, Week 37
Community News
Arx Libertatis, An improved, cross-platform and open source engine for Arx Fatalis, a 2002 first-person role-playing game / dungeon crawler / immersive sim was just added, bringing another cult classic to the Android screen. You’ll need the Demo data files just to test, or use the game files from your old CDs or fresh off a digital game service. You can follow the instructions in the Wiki to setup the game.
Blocker was updated to 2.0.4497-fdroid, small note, be aware that the included rules might be missing. The next update will fix them. Upstream issue
Briar was updated to 1.5.13, a small polish after last months UI update to Material Design 3. Briar is a peer-to-peer messaging app that does not depend on centralized servers, and it routes messages via the Tor network. This can be a pain for mobile devices as they can go online and offline as the geography dictates (or your OEMs battery optimizations) hence messages can be delayed. But did you know you can pair Briar with Briar Mailbox? Announced last year and in F-Droid since April, Mailbox acts as your own private server that you can setup on a spare Android device that sits comfortable always online and keeps your messages ready to be delivered to you or to your contacts. Linking your account to Mailbox is as easy as scanning a QR code.
Element - Secure Messenger was updated to 1.6.20, as the Element team gave F-Droid the ok to build one month later than their release. It’s an important update as it adds support for “Authenticated media”, about which you can read more here. Unfortunately the armv7 version hit some memory limits so it will be rebuilt next. SchildiChat users are already covered as their app was updated a few weeks ago and FluffyChat users might get the update by the time they read this TWIF. Element X is still work-in-progress, as newer versions fail to build reproducible, we are communicating with the Element team to bring it up to date as soon as possible.
mpvKt: MPV based media player, A media player based on the popular commandline media player mpv, was just added, it’s based on mpv-android and tries to offer you the power of mpv in a nicer UI that’s easier to use and handle. Will it replace your old player? Do test and tell us!
Chaldea was updated to 2.5.14 and kardi notes | privacy matters to 2.1.1, but we’ll have to ask you to skip these updates as they are broken, being the victims of an aggressive scanning issue.
What scanner issue? Last week we added a new check to the scanner which was intended to catch non-deterministic builds. When a package manager file, e.g. pubspec.yaml, is found without a lock file aside, the scanner throws an error or deletes the file, when scandelete is used. This feature was not tested on enough app source code bases and, when deployed for hundreds of apps a cycle needs to build, it caused, besides delayed updates, many false positives and even made some builds (as pointed above) produce broken packages. We appologize for the mess. This issue has been fixed and failed packages have been rebuilt.

Video Transcoder, Video transcoding between common formats, was getting long in the tooth, no longer being developed and based on a 6 year old FFmpeg version that has its share of known vulnerabilities. But it’s not all bad news as at least Bunny Media Editor and Open Video Editor can cover your video editing tasks and, if needed, FFShare will let you tweak that final encoding.

This Week in F-Droid
TWIF curated on Thursday, 05 Sep 2024, Week 36
F-Droid Core
The F-Droid Client version served by the huge blue button of the main homepage of the F-Droid website was just updated from 1.17 to the latest stable 1.20. As week 14 TWIF forebode, and the week 30 TWIF explained, newer Client versions introduced the “Other” anti-feature setting as an umbrella to cover whatever the future would bring. Unfortunately, updating the client would just add the new setting turned off by default, so apps flagged with such an anti-feature, eg. TetheredNet would not be shown in searches. A small banner on top of the results list mentions the hidden apps, but users might easily miss it. If your client was upgraded from an older version this year, you can just open the Settings page, find “Include anti-feature apps” entry and check “Other Anti-features”. But from now on, when you install F-Droid for the first time, from the blue button, this setting is already as it should be. More work is ongoing to polish the small banner, fix settings on client upgrades and integrate “TetheredNet” as a standalone anti-feature.
Community News
Hacktoberfest 2024, A month-long celebration of all things open-source, will be upon us soon. Former F-Droid contributors have setup a site to keep track of Android apps, around the community, that will join in. If you want to lend a hand to your favorite app, do bookmark the Droidtoberfest website and remember to get ready to contribute.
BobBall was updated to 1.17 after an 8 year hiatus. For Android 2.3.3 users there’s only bad news, no, it’s not about your Android being 13 years too old, it’s worse, the new BobBall works only on 4.0 and later. 😅
LibreTube was updated to 0.25.1 and now supports “local streams extraction” similar to NewPipe, as it contains a workaround for recent AntiBot protection changes by YouTube. The upstream issue contains more user experiences and info.
RHVoice - a free and open source speech synthesize was updated to 1.16.3 after 8 months of no updates as F-Droid contributors need to manually track when releases are ready. Updates are pretty important as the other well known TTS app, eSpeak, is already 2 years old and can’t even be installed on newer arm64-only or Android 14+ devices. RHVoice does not cover the same range of locales but provides some voice output to use.

Community News
As a ghost from the troubled Internet past, a blog post about Geddit, A Reddit client without using their API, appeared last week, where the developer tells the story of how Geddit was born.
Mattermost Beta was updated to 2.19.0, bringing a steady stream of improvements for this FOSS chat solution that’s full of features: 1:1 chat, channels, threads, calls, archive search, dev tools integration, markdown, playbooks for processes, webhooks, plugins and more. And here’s the kicker: you can self-host the server!. Yes, it’s not on someone else’s computer (aka the cloud), no, it’s on yours, it’s On-Prem if you want it or in your own cloud. Even more, want the new fancy AI stuff? They’ve got a plugin for that too, so you can connect it to the big corporate controlled AI, or… to your own local AI (see a pattern there?). 😎 Is this the Slack or Teams killer that you’ve been looking for?
Readrops was updated to 2.0-beta01, and at least one user reported some issues on their device. We’ve changed the F-Droid metadata to not pickup beta versions in the future, until the developer deems releases stable. While we could not reproduce the issue on other device, you can read the upstream issue and see if you need to postpone the update.

This Week in F-Droid
TWIF curated on Thursday, 22 Aug 2024, Week 34
Community News
We don’t have the habit of recommending apps (besides F-Droid and F-Droid Basic clients as expected 😛), but this week a common theme was brought up, “what’s up with VLC?”.
We’ve pinged the VLC team in the past and it looked like a new release was just around the corner, I mean the app works fine but it hasn’t seen a stable release in 18 months, and while past CVEs don’t seem to affect it, there’s always the fear of the unknown or just the impression that “it is old”.
Regarding the release delay, we understood that there are some issues regarding publishing VLC on some alternative centralized store but since same store owner was praising VLC not only on mobile devices but also on TVs we expected it to be fixed by now, yet it isn’t. And worse, it feels like that drama is delaying a stable release for F-Droid too. Eager users pinged us or opened Forum threads concerned that maybe F-Droid skipped a beat, as at least VLC is pushing nightly packages to their site just fine.
Hoping the story above clears some things, F-Droid includes some other players that might strike your fancy, and these got updated in the last 2 months (not years):
NOVA Video Player was updated to 6.2.93 this week
Next Player was updated last week
mpv-android and Just (Video) Player were updated in June and new versions are built as we speak
Removed Apps
3 old apps were removed

Translations are the easiest way to help your favourite apps, not only that they’ll look nice when you use them in your language, but also this enables more users even if they don’t know the native language of the app developer. (That’s how I started too, remember?)
The best way to translate is when projects have setup a translation portal, F-Droid signals such apps with the “Translation” link on website and in client, but not all apps have this so you might need to ask the developer to setup one first. For reference, top 3 used portals: Weblate (used by F-Droid too, open-source, self-hostable, our recommendation), Crowdin and Transifex (both proprietary but free for FLOSS projects).
Also F-Droid contributor yzqzss has setup their own Weblate at toolate.othing.xyz for apps that won’t fit the main hosted.weblate.org criteria.
Jami was updated to 20240802-01, but is the app translated in your language fully? If not, you can lend a hand, and their recent “How to contribute to translations” post guides you on how to start.
At least two users pinged us about a peculiar habit of them that recent updates broke, running OsmAnd~ from F-Droid and OSMAnd from the upstream developer at the same time. The issue was introduced by the app developers, but F-Droid added a local fix too as needed for our heavily modified build recipe. You can update now to 4.8.5 and everything should work as it used to do. Translation wise, we’ve updated our app description a while ago but most locales were still old so we had to cleaned them up, and they’ll default to the English one now. There’s no translations portal yet, but you can submit your translation via Gitlab or the Forum, based on these 3 texts.
For translations fans, our forum hosts a long thread with user ideas, if you want to dig further.
We’ve got a lot of requests and concerns about Wikipedia being outdated, but the developers worked to fix the issue and the app is updated to current r/2.7.50495-r-2024-07-23.

F-Droid core
It’s no secret that F-Droid continues to live and thrive thanks in part to you, the users that donate, but also in part thanks to different grants we’ve received along these 14 years of existence. Our recent post covered the endangered NGI program and its importance.
The Guardian Project has been a long time supporter of F-Droid, pouring in not only grant money but also human resources. They are now looking for a part-time Grant Administrator so if you find the list of their achievements tempting and your skills match the bullet points, don’t be shy and get in contact. Who knows, maybe you can be featured here next. 😛
Back in May we’ve highlighted the work contributors around F-Droid have done in order to shine a light onto the app downloads stats. The Divested (thanks!) hosted page just got an update, covering the weeks since then: https://divestos.org/pages/fdroid_stats
/PS: if you are involved with the project(s) that download Termux packages 300.000 times per week, two advices: first, do get in contact with us because we’re curious about your work, and second please try to setup a round robin script of sorts that downloads from mirrors instead since we have plenty of those and it’s not in anyone’s benefit that you download 25-30Tb of data from our servers each and every week. 😐
Community News
F-Droid has been using Maven repos in its builds given that developers love to depend on them, but also because rebuilding everything from source is a lengthy process, not yet perfected for the reproducible future we want to reach. We’ve chosen to trust a limited number of repos and also flag any misstep in their contents with an extra layer of verification. Two years ago we’ve explained a bit more on why we do this, in a post.
At the start of 2021 one such big Maven repo, JCenter, announced that it was closing “soon”, but the developers pleaded for an extension receiving at least read-only access. We’ve hoped that, this being known, developers will choose in time to move their libraries to other Maven repos, or choose to use other libs from other repos. Hence 3 years have passed, but this appears to have never happened, our current running cycle yielded apps failing to find their dependencies hosted on JCenter, and we expect more and more to fail.
The article “JCenter Sunset on August 15th, 2024” explains the timeline, the “why” and the next steps devs can take. Now that the ‘the chickens come home to roost’ we expect updates to be delayed as developers rush to change dependencies, integrate the old ones or refactor as needed.
In the chaos that will ensue, we want to remind developers that, while it’s easy to fish some JAR or AAR files from your Gradle caches, stuff them in libs/ and call it a day, the inclusion policy governs over updates too, so make sure everything is replaced with equally FLOSS things. 😉
Latest “cleaning” hit Bilibili clients hard. PipePipe is still standing, but a new challenger was just included, bilimiao, Original Bilibili Time Machine.
Back in April, André Staltz, the main Manyverse developer posted their last update on the project blog, and while the app has not seen updates in F-Droid for years, there was this glimmer of hope that eventually the NodeJS and NDK planets will align and the app would be buildable again. The app repo is now under new management and they’ve decided to switch focus away from the underlying protocol making the app resurrection a hard task. You can read about the future of the protocol in a post here. F-Droid archived the app, but we’ll keep an eye on the future endeavors coming out of these projects.
LibreTrack was updated to 1.4.1 but this version had an issue making it unusable. If you didn’t update, use the menu to skip this version. 1.4.2 will come in a few days.

Imagine you created your very first app. You developed the concept, worked
tirelessly on the key features, design, tested it and fixed the bugs. The
moment has finally arrived and you are ready to share your creation with the
world. But how? App stores are a great tool for sharing apps with end users,
but each store has its own unique requirements, upload and approval process
and for some, such as the Google Play Store, you need to pay a developer
registration fee and create an account including a physical address to even
get started.
If you are a new developer, trying to bring your first app to market, the
learning curve can feel a little steep. Once you have done it the first
time, one could argue that the process feels somewhat familiar. However with
each new release, each new update for your app, comes additional manual
steps to follow.
So, if you were faced with the choice of navigating the app deployment and
upload process with one app store, or doing it several times over with
different app stores, with unique requirements and deployment processes,
what would you choose?
For most new Android developers, the answer is simple, just get the app on
Google Play and call it a day. And the reality is that the conversation
often stops there for many mainstream Android app developers, feeding the
monopoly and strengthening the hold Big Tech has on the market.
F-Droid is of course an excellent FOSS based alternative for those looking
for a privacy-focused, community-led app store. But we are not the only app
store solution developers could choose from. So what if there was a way to
open up the market for new and existing developers by creating some fair and
healthy competition? What if we could streamline the app deployment process,
making it easier for developers to upload their APK to multiple stores at
the push of a button? Well, this is exactly what F-Droid will be focusing on
creating, for our initial contribution to the
Mobifree project.
User Research to Discover Pain Points and Potential Solutions
To get started we began with a series of user research interviews to gain a
deeper perspective on the current challenges developers and alternative app
stores have, when it comes to app deployment. We paid particular attention
to various compensation models favored by the developers and explored how to
incorporate easy payment options into our solution.
The results of the study were clear, developers are interested in listing
their app on alternative app stores, but the app deployment and upload
process to multiple stores is not straightforward. This results in a
centralized market, with the majority of mainstream apps simply ending up on
one app store. If we want to decentralize the market, and create more choice
for developers and end users, then we need to make it easier for developers
to list their app on multiple stores, streamline the update process, and
consider developer compensation in our solution as well.
After successfully identifying the pain points, some market research
participants pointed out a FOSS-based solution on the market that solves
some of them - Fastlane. Fastlane is an
open-source platform aimed at simplifying Android and iOS deployment, by
helping developers automate their development and release workflow. We had
already been exploring how we could potentially use a Fastlane framework for
our idea, so when some of our study participants mentioned they were already
implementing Fastlane tools to automate their Google Play launches and
updates, we took that as a good sign.
However we noticed some limitations within the Fastlane framework. Their
main focus is automating the app deployment, upload and review process for
the two biggest players - Google Play and the Apple App Store. Our goal is
to create a workflow that automatically deploys and uploads to multiple
stores simultaneously, helping diversify the market.
In addition to Fastlane´s app upload feature, the Fastlane core team and
community have created a nice list of additional
plug-ins for developers to further
automate various aspects of the app development, screenshot generation,
testing, uploading and the updating process.
Once we begin the development process, we will have a clearer idea of how we
can lean on Fastlane´s existing framework, for our own solution.
Accounting for Financial Sustainability
Our aim is to create a solution that is streamlined and straightforward,
encouraging a decentralization of the app market in general. But in order to
create a solution that will be mainstream enough to make in-roads into the
hold Big Tech has on the market, we need to consider how to streamline the
payment processes as well, making it easy for developers receive financial
compensation. Therefore, we included compensation model preferences in our
interviews with developers to gain insight into their values and
preferences.
When it came to preferred compensation models such as pay-to-download,
in-app payments, donations or subscription-based models, it became clear
that the preferred model was highly dependent on the type of app and user
base.
Some developers we interviewed noted a preference towards the old school
pay-to-download approach. With this compensation model, users pay a one-time
fee to download the app from an app store. The transaction occurs before the
users has access to the app.
For app stores like Google Play, this is straightforward as they have their
own built in licensing service where distributing and verifying license keys
is handled internally and the tool is of course proprietary.
If we want to create a solution that includes a pay-to-download option for
developers who are uploading their apps to multiple app stores
simultaneously, integrating with payment gateways like PayPal or Stripe can
provide a straightforward approach to handle transactions externally. Users
can purchase the app through these gateways and receive a download link or
licensing key upon successful payment. Furthermore, to streamline the
payment and licensing key distribution process, developers can leverage
providers that offer unified APIs. These unified APIs simplify the
integration by providing a single point of access to manage payments and
distribute licensing keys across various platforms, ensuring a more
efficient and cohesive user experience.
After pay-to-download, several developers pointed towards a
subscription-based model preference. In this case, they cited regular
maintenance and storage expenses they carry as a company, as the reason for
their decision. Subscription based compensation models often include a free
trial period, then after that time limit has been reached, a payment
occurs. We also heard the “freemium” model being used frequently, where some
features are free, while others come at a cost. Subscription based models
are considered a type of in-app payment, since the transaction is usually
repetitive and occurs after the app has been downloaded and installed.
Within the FOSS community, donation-based models are regularly adopted to
improve access to technology, while securing financial sustainability of
FOSS-based projects. Liberapay is a great
FOSS-based example, providing a way to help facilitate regular, reoccurring
donation payments, in a similar way to subscription model.
Open Collective offers similar services and
is also FOSS-based. However, Open Collective offers more advanced financial
management tools for its users, and is geared towards larger projects with
more complex needs. Additionally, they are more focused on individually
occurring payments, rather than recurring ones. However, this is also an
option. Several developers and app stores told us that prefer in-app
payment models, because it gives them more freedom and flexibility for
developers and end users alike. In many cases in-app payments include an SDK
which is built into the APK file. This enables in-app payments to occur. The
SDK typically integrates with a payment gateway such as Stripe or PayPal or
a service provider. The SDK also includes UI components for payments,
supports various payment methods such as credit cards and digital wallets,
and also handles the transaction management. Finally we discussed in-app
advertising as a potential revenue source. There are of course inherent
privacy issues with advertising models that allow user tracking, so the
general consensus was that if in-app advertising models are used, they
should be done so with caution. Not only are privacy and data protection
founding principles for both Mobifree and F-Droid, the use of tracking-based
in-app advertising poses a moral dilemma as well. If someone wants to gain
access to an app, but does not have the financial means to purchase it, they
can use it at a different kind of price - their user data. It should be
mentioned that it is possible to include in-app advertising without user
tracking. However the lead conversion ratio drops dramatically, so the
efficacy of this approach is not nearly as high.
Making sense of it all
At the end of the day, finding a streamlined approach for app distribution
that considers diverse compensation model options for developers and users
is a tall order. However motivation and support for the concept is high,
from both Mobifree partners, F-Droid contributors and the FOSS community in
general.
We are looking forward to taking you on the journey with us as we break
ground on this project in the coming months. Stay tuned to our blog for
future updates and if you would like to contribute to our project, feel free

One feature that was seldom in the limelight is HTTP Basic Auth for repositories, meaning you can have your own private repo that only trusted users can access. Until the recent repository UI overhaul, when such a repo was being added a dialogue would pop-up asking the user to authenticate. In the new UI this dialogue is gone, so now when you share a private repo you’d have to provide the credentials in the actual URL, eg. https://username:password@example.com/fdroid/repo/

Fennec F-Droid and Mull were updated to 128.0.3, and the changelog is small. One of the more interesting add-ons for Firefox was launched about 2 years ago only for the Desktop app, powered by Bergamot, it provided local, private, in-browser translations. As time passed this useful functionality was merged in the main browser. In the mobile world, we got access to all the add-on just 9 months ago, yet the translation add-on was none to be found. 😠
It appears that the mobile browser is getting the same functionality too, soon. How soon? It’s called experimental, so if you open about:translations in Fennec today, you can quickly get some results. But this power is needed when viewing web pages, so the Mull developer worked their magic to enable it (as experimental as it is) right now for everyone. Just navigate to a page in a different language, and if the translation pop-up does not appear, open the menu and touch Translate. Hopefully Mozilla makes this a stable feature and adds more and more languages.
Neo Backup was updated to 8.3.7 but we had to disable this version as it is crashing. For the time being, you can expand Versions in app details and install the older version, also open the upper right menu and select “Ignore this update” so the broken one is not installed. (Upstream issue)
OsmAnd~ was updated to 4.8.3, this new release comes after they just celebrated their 14th birthday 🎉. The new version is feature-full and you can read everything about it in a new blog post.

Recently, we rolled out a new AntiFeature - Tethered Network Services. It’s introduced to solve a long-standing issue in the NonFreeNet AntiFeature: What does “NonFree” here mean? All these years we have marked apps relying on web services that can’t be customized with the NonFreeNet AntiFeature and this caused confusion since many users thought that the marked apps rely on web services running non-free software. And this is unfair to many apps that they are marked as the same as apps relying on proprietary services while their services are running FOSS. Now we split the old confusing “Non-Free Network Services” AntiFeature into two different Anti-Features: “Non-Free Network Services” is only for apps relying on proprietary services and “Tethered Network Services” is only for apps relying on unchangeable services. They are totally orthogonal. Most apps relying on “Non-Free Network Services” also rely on “Tethered Network Services” but if an app relies on a non-free but self-hostable server software, e.g., MongoDB, it should be marked as “Non-Free Network Services” only. We have marked some apps that are known to rely on only FOSS services with the new AntiFeature. This is just an initial work. If you find any apps wrongly marked as “Non-Free Network Services”, please report to us or fix it directly with an MR.
If you use the official F-Droid client updated from 1.19, please check the enabled Anti-Features list in Settings > App compatibility > Include anti-feature apps. The new added TetheredNet is counted as Other Anti-features which is disabled by default. New installations are not affected.

SensorServer is not reproducible anymore due to a weird problem of a lib, please see fdroiddata#15371 for more details. Current users can’t update to the new version because the signature is changed. Please uninstall the old version and install the new version manually.
@XilinJia published a new version of Podcini:
On getting my new version Podcini.R listed, linsui and Licaon_Kter have been very helpful. There were some issue on getting a reproducible build, linsui patiently provided lots of assistance in getting the build right. I here express my appreciation for their work.
Please note that the users can’t update from Podcini to Podcini.R, the new version with a complete overhaul, because the database is not compatible and the app id is changed. We take this opportunity to enable Reproducible Build for it.
We talked about Pilipala, a Bilibili client, coming back last week. Unfortunately, another Bilibili client, BiliYou was removed due to the same proprietary lib, GeeTest this week. It’s not actively maintained so maybe it will never come back.
